Flo Offers Free Premium Subscriptions for US-based Obstetricians and Gynecologists

One-year premium membership will be available beginning January 2022

SAN FRANCISCO, January 12, 2022Flo,  the #1 OB-GYN-recommended app for period and cycle tracking in the US is announcing it is offering free, one-year premium subscriptions to US-based obstetricians and gynecologists. With this offering, Flo aims to increase awareness among heathcare practicioners of the possibilities that novel digital technologies provide in educating women about sexual and reproductive health. Beginning today, US-based OBGYNs can register for their free Flo Premium subscription through the Flo website. The offering is available today through December 2022.

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), changes in the menstrual cycle can be just as useful for predicting potential health problems such as abnormal blood pressure, heart rate, or respiratory rate¹. In the United States, however, menstruation is not always covered as part of sex ed classes — and comprehensive sex education is only taught in one-fifth of American middle schools. This results in a severe knowledge gap between the OBGYN and the patient, with the burden falling on the OBGYN to educate their patients about basic sexual and reproductive health information.

“We believe knowing yourself and your body is the biggest untapped resource which arms women with the self care and confidence needed to better understand their health,” said Anna Klepchukova, Chief Medical Officer of Flo. “We also see that healthcare practitioners are overworked and overwhelmed, leaving less time to collect patient history or provide comprehensive patient education. According to an internal Flo study, we were surprised to find that only 45% of US OBGYNs are aware of the benefits period tracking apps can bring clinicians and patients. We hope that offering free, one-year premium subscriptions will close the knowledge gap between doctors and patients, increase patient advocacy, and make doctor visits effective for all parties involved.”

“When women track and log their menstrual cycles through digital technologies, they become proactive champions for their overall health,” said Lubna Pal, Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences, Yale School of Medicine. “Not only are users able to better determine when something feels "off" but they're also able to leverage personalized data which helps to ensure more targeted counseling. I believe increasing adoption and utilization of digital technologies by women's health providers can be tremendously valuable in furthering our collective efforts at improving women's health.”

Flo supports women during their entire reproductive lives and provides curated cycle and ovulation tracking, personalized evidence-based health insights, tips from 100+ medical experts, and a private community for women to share their questions and concerns.
