Flo's Anonymous Mode

An added layer of privacy for your personal data

Flo believes that now, more than ever, everyone deserves to understand their body better without worrying about who can access their personal data — particularly their health data. That’s why we created Anonymous Mode.

What is Anonymous Mode?

Anonymous Mode gives you access to the Flo app without sharing any information that identifies you (such as your name or email address), so your health information is completely private to you.

This means that if Flo ever receives an official request to identify an Anonymous Mode user by name or email, it won’t be possible to satisfy that request.

Rest assured, Flo values and protects everything you share with us — whether you switch to Anonymous Mode or not. We are the first and only period tracker to be dual-certified in both ISO Security 27001 and ISO Privacy 27701, which are internationally recognized standards. And, Flo has never — and will never — sell your personal data.

Recognized as the best privacy innovation in the 2022 IAPP Privacy Innovation Awards¹

Among the most impactful new products and ideas of 2023, according to TIME

“The feature makes Flo the first female health app to take this level of precaution in terms of privacy and security after experts expressed concerns over data protection following the US Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.”
Femtech World, 2022
“Honestly feels like my best friend. I like the way it makes me feel cared for.”

Is Flo safe to use?

Protecting your data

Even when you’re not in Anonymous Mode, your personal data is protected by advanced privacy and security measures. Flo is the first and only period tracker to be dual-certified in two internationally recognized privacy and security standards.

Being transparent

Your data is only collected and processed when there is a legal basis to do so and with your informed consent. But if Flo ever receives an official request to identify an Anonymous Mode user, it won’t be possible to satisfy that request.

Never selling personal data

Flo has never, and will never, sell user information or share it with third parties for advertising purposes.

Protecting your privacy

In Anonymous Mode, no one — including Flo — can identify a real person by using data from inside the app.

“At Flo Health, our mission is to build a better future for female health. When it comes to health, knowledge is power. Our app helps to put the power and control back into the hands of women by supporting them through their entire reproductive lives.”

Flo’s VP of Privacy & Data Protection Officer

Frequently asked questions

Flo’s Anonymous Mode was already in development when the US Supreme Court ruled to overturn Roe v. Wade (the legal right to access a medical abortion). In the wake of that ruling, some users expressed concerns about how their health data might be used by third parties, such as official requests for apps like Flo to share pregnancy data with law enforcement. We believe our users should feel in control and secure when using our app, so we launched Anonymous Mode right away.

Anonymous Mode allows you to access the Flo app without sharing any information that identifies you (such as your name or email address), so your health information is completely private to you. If ever Flo receives an official request to identify an Anonymous Mode user by name or email, it won’t be possible to satisfy that request. You can read more about Anonymous Mode in our Help Center.

Yes, it is safe. Anonymous Mode allows you to use Flo anonymously, so we don’t ask for information that identifies you, like your name or email address. That means the health data you log is completely private to you. If ever Flo receives an official request to identify an Anonymous Mode user by name or email, it won’t be possible to satisfy that request. Find out more about Anonymous Mode in our Help Center.
