London, August 03, 2022 – Flo, the #1 female health app, today announced the achievement of its ISO 27001 certification, the internationally recognized standard for information security. Established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the ISO 27001 certification affirms that Flo’s policies, processes, and procedures meet the world’s most rigorous standards and attests that Flo protects users’ data at the highest standard possible. As part of the company’s ongoing commitment to providing best-in-class data protection, Flo is now the first period & ovulation tracker to achieve this hallmark of excellence.
“We are very proud to share that Flo has become the first period and ovulation tracker to be ISO 27001 certified. Achieving this certification marks a major milestone for our company and our users,” said Leo Cunningham, Chief Information Security Officer at Flo. “Although obtaining ISO 27001 certification is not mandatory, we believe that now more than ever, it is critical to pay the closest attention to the protection of our users’ most intimate health data. We hope this milestone will set an example for the industry and empower companies to raise the bar when it comes to security principles.”
"Congratulations to Flo on achieving a gold standard data security certification," said Stevie Case, Chief Revenue Officer of Vanta. "Data privacy has never been more critical, and this further demonstrates Flo's commitment to safeguarding customer information."
The ISO is an independent, nongovernmental, international body that develops standards to ensure the quality, safety, and efficiency of products, services, and systems. ISO 27001 is the only auditable certification in the world that defines the requirements of an information security management system (ISMS), covering 14 domains of security to ensure all areas are adequately assessed. Achieving this certification means that Flo protects users’ data against information risks, such as cyberattacks, hacks, data leaks, and theft, at the highest standard possible.
To become ISO 27001 certified, Flo created new guidelines around security, tested all controls across 14 domains, ran a comprehensive training for all staff, and completed rigorous audits performed by external companies. The project took 9 months, and Flo passed with a score of 100%.
